Why You Should Focus On Improving Nissan Qashqai Key Fob

Reasons Why Your Nissan Qashqai Key Fob Won't Work

The Qashqai has a distinctly SUV-like feel due to its larger dimensions. Moreover, the wheel sizes of 19 inches in Ti and ST-L models can be a bit spongy at times. The front tyres may lose grip on rough surfaces, and its CVT could occasionally exhibit wrist-flexing torque steer.

This is usually caused by an unresponsive battery that can be replaced in a matter of minutes. Make sure the battery you replace is of the same size, voltage and specifications.

Water Damage

Water damage is one of the most frequent causes for an Nissan keyfob to display the "key ID incorrect" message. The key fob has rubber seals which protect the chip inside, however prolonged exposure to moisture can cause it to cease functioning properly. It's typical to observe this happen if your key fob was dropped into the water or in a swimming pool. But it can also occur when it is wet due to the rain or soapy hands.

If your key fob has been exposed to water for a lengthy time, it may need to be cleaned with isopropyl ethanol or electronic cleaner. It may also require a visit to an expert to repair or replace it.

If your key fob need to be replaced, the procedure is relatively easy. First, make sure that you have an appropriate multipack battery (CR2032 3V). Then, you can open the back and front cases using the small flathead screwdriver. You'll have to remove the metal retaining clips and remove the battery that was in place, and then insert the new one. Reassemble the fob and replace the mechanical key. Check that it works correctly. If it isn't then you'll have to take it to a Nissan dealer or a professional auto locksmith to replace the chip. Fortunately, the chip is not often damaged by water exposure and therefore this shouldn't be a major expense.

Dead Coin Battery

Another reason why the reason your Nissan Qashqai key fob might not function is because the battery for the coin is dead.  G28  between 3-5 years, but they may fail over time, particularly if the fob is frequently dropped. You can replace the battery with a fresh one, but make sure that it's the same size and voltage as the original. If you choose to use a brand new battery, it could cause the key to be assigned a wrong key ID. This will stop it from being connected to your vehicle.

The best method to replace the coin battery on the Nissan Qashqai key fob is by prying open the key fob using an incredibly small screwdriver with a flat head. The screwdriver should be inserted into a small notch on the bottom of your key fob. Simply twist the screwdriver to split the two halves. Remove the old CR2025 battery and replace it with a brand new one, noting the position of the old one in the fob.

Examine the terminals to see if there is dirt or water damage prior to installing the new battery. If this is the case clean the terminals with a small amount isopropyl ethanol. You'll also need to make sure the pole cables are plugged in correctly - they should be connected to the negative and positive poles of the battery, respectively.

Fault Diagnosis

If your Nissan Qashqai's main fob stops working after being exposed to pure rainwater or clean tap water, this could indicate that there's an issue with the internal chip. Change the battery won't fix the issue, and you'll need to buy another key fob. If the key fob stopped working after dropping it, it's likely that the chip inside was damaged. You can usually get the key fob to work again if you remove and clean the chip using paper towel and isopropyl alcohol, then put it back into.

Key ID Incorrect is a common error you may see on the dashboard of your vehicle. This means that the car cannot recognize the key fob, and will not allow it to start the engine. The issue could be caused by a variety of things including water damage, undetectable malfunctions in the circuitry of the key fob, or RFID interference.

If the 12 volt battery in your key fob is empty or isn't supplying enough electric power it will cease to function. This will affect your Nissan Qashqai's remote keyless system, central locking and the ability to start the engine using the key fob. If you're unable to unlock or lock the door by hand, you should check the batteries in the key fob to make sure they are in good condition. You may also try reconnecting the battery in order to reset your transmitter.

Reprogramming

Unless the key fob has been submerged in salt water the key fob should be able to come back to life after a quick rinse with clean water. You may also try cleaning the electronic chip with isopropyl alcohol or an electronic cleaner. If these don't work, it may be time to replace the entire key fob with a new one.

If your Nissan Intelligent Key is still not functioning, there may be a problem with the connection between it and the car. To reconnect it, begin by turning the key in the ignition, but not starting the car. Repeat this process until the hazard lights flash twice. Then, turn off your vehicle and remove the key.

Next, open the fob compartment of your vehicle. It's usually located in the door jamb, on the handle for the driver's door or under the armrest. Find the small "program" button and press it. You will hear a sound after the process is completed.

It's time to put your Intelligent Key to the test. Click all the buttons on the key while standing a distance from the car. If the lights flash or the horn sounds, then the key is successfully connected to the Nissan. You can also test it close to the Nissan.
